NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID
The certificate doesn't cover this name
Seen in Chrome, Edge (Firefox: SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN)
The certificate is valid, but not for the hostname in the address bar.
Common causes
- The certificate lists example.com but not www.example.com (or the reverse).
- The name points at a shared host or CDN that serves a different site's certificate.
- Visiting by IP address or an internal name not on the certificate.
How to fix it
- Reissue the certificate with every name visitors use as a subject alternative name.
- Make sure DNS points at the server or CDN configured for this name.
- Redirect the uncovered name only after a valid certificate is in place.
