PING: transmit failed. General failure.
Windows could not send the ping at all
Seen in Windows ping
Windows failed to send the ICMP packet, so the problem is on the local machine rather than the network or the target.
Common causes
- The network adapter is disabled, disconnected or has a faulty driver.
- No usable IP configuration or default gateway for the destination.
- A VPN client, firewall or IPsec policy is blocking outbound traffic.
How to fix it
- Check the adapter is enabled and connected with `ipconfig /all`, and update or reinstall its driver.
- Renew the address with `ipconfig /release` and `ipconfig /renew`, and confirm a default gateway is set.
- Disconnect VPN software and temporarily disable third-party firewalls to find the blocker.
